Formed in 2007, the group was founded by brothers Vic and Mike Fuentes after the disbandment of the group Before Today (formerly Early Times), which was formed out of the San Diego punk rock scene. Other members of the band include Jaime Preciado (bassist and backing vocals) and Tony Perry (lead guitar). Pierce the Veil has released three studio albums and has continuously been inducted into several worldwide tours since the release of their debut album, A Flair for the Dramatic in 2007. The band released their second full-length studio album, titled Selfish Machines in 2010. Their third and latest album, Collide with the Sky, was released in 2012, and is their first album under the major record label Fearless Records. The band's fourth studio album is set to be released in late 2014 through Fearless.

Chiodos released their first full-length album, titled All's Well That Ends Well, on July 26, 2005. Their second album, Bone Palace Ballet, was released in North America on September 4, 2007 and debuted at number 5 on the Billboard 200 and number 1 on the Independent Albums. Warner Bros. Records released Bone Palace Ballet on January 26, 2009, as part of a new distribution deal in the UK. They released their third studio album, Illuminaudio in 2010, and it was the only studio album to features Brandon Bolmer as lead vocalist and Tanner Wayne as drummer. The band released their fourth album, Devil on April 1, 2014, which marks the return of original vocalist Craig Owens and original drummer Derrick Frost.

Vocalist Craig Owens stated that the group will not be collaborating or releasing new material again. However, in an interview with Pierce the Veil and Isles & Glaciers member Vic Fuentes, the band may be releasing more material in the future. Fuentes stated "It’s just like so hard to get everyone in one place at the same time, you know? But it’s definitely not something we’re ruling out completely. We want to do it, it’s just a matter of trying to make it happen. If it can actually happen."
