The album featured the single "One Wish (for Christmas)", which reached the top twenty on Billboards U.S. Adult Contemporary chart. The album spent six weeks on the Billboard 200 and has sold 487,681 copies to date. The New York Times noted the "lavish swoops, the sultry whispers, the gospelly asides and the meteoric crescendos" from Houston. The album also features a duet with Whitney's daughter Bobbi Kristina on "The Little Drummer Boy". The album also re-uses "Joy to the World" and "Who Would Imagine a King" from 1996's The Preacher's Wife: Original Soundtrack Album.

The release was successful selling 300,000 copies and going platinum in the United Kingdom having reached #9 in the UK Albums Chart, although it was most successful in Denmark where it reached #6. The album marked a brief return to record label EMI with whom he had previously been signed for 41 years. One single was released from the album, entitled "Santa's List", which reached a peak position of #5 in the UK charts over the festive period.

The album contained almost an equal amount of new songs, written by Ashanti herself, and covers of Christmas classics. As for singles, Ashanti released a Christmas Medley which featured the songs "Christmas Time Again", "The Christmas Song", and "Hey Santa". A video was shot for the medley and it received moderate rotation on BET and MTV.
